SSI Dry Suit Diving Specialty

The SSI Dry Suit Diving Specialty teaches you how to stay warm, comfortable, and in control while diving in colder water. With the right dry suit skills, you can extend your dive season and enjoy the excellent visibility that often comes with cooler conditions.

In this course you’ll learn how dry suits work, how to choose the right suit and undergarments, and how to manage buoyancy and trim using both your BCD and dry suit. You’ll also cover donning, doffing, emergency procedures, and proper care and maintenance to protect your investment.

After training with Coral Sea Scuba, you’ll be ready to explore local lakes, quarries, and coastal sites in comfort — even when the water temperature drops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I take the Dry Suit Diving Specialty?
A dry suit lets you dive comfortably in colder water and extend your dive season. You’ll stay warmer, enjoy better visibility in many locations, and open up more local and travel dive opportunities.

Do I need any experience before starting?
You should be a certified Open Water Diver or equivalent and comfortable with basic buoyancy skills. Your instructor at Coral Sea Scuba will help confirm readiness and recommend any tune-up training if needed.

What skills will I learn?
You’ll learn how to select and fit a dry suit, choose appropriate undergarments, control buoyancy and trim, manage air in the suit, perform safe ascents and descents, and respond to common dry suit issues.

Is dry suit diving difficult?
It feels different at first because you are managing air in the suit as well as your BCD, but with proper instruction and a few dives, most divers adapt quickly and find it very comfortable.

Will I practice in real open water?
Yes. The course includes in-water training where you’ll apply dry suit techniques under the supervision of an instructor and get comfortable in realistic conditions.

Does this course count toward advanced ratings?
Absolutely. The SSI Dry Suit Diving Specialty counts toward recognition levels such as Specialty Diver, Advanced Open Diver, and Master Diver.
