Advanced Adventurer – Frequently Asked Questions

What specialties are included in the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

You will complete five different specialty course dives such as Deep Diving, Perfect Buoyancy, Navigation, Night Diving, and Boat Diving. This allows you to experience new skills while becoming a more confident diver.

Do I need to be Open Water certified first?

Yes. You must have an SSI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent to enroll. The Advanced Adventurer course builds on those foundational skills to help you become more independent underwater.

How long does the training take?

Most divers complete the program in one or two weekends, depending on class schedule and weather. Our instructors will guide you through planning and performing each adventure dive.

Will I earn any full specialty certifications?

Each completed dive may count as credit toward the full SSI specialty course. For example, your Deep Dive in Advanced Adventurer counts toward the Deep Diving specialty.

Where will we do the training dives?

Confined water sessions are completed locally, and adventure dives take place at lakes and ocean sites in Southern Oregon and Northern California depending on conditions.

How do I sign up?

You can enroll by visiting Coral Sea Scuba & Water Sports in Grants Pass, calling the shop, or using the contact form on our website. We’ll help you schedule your online academics and training dives.
