To earn this rating, you’ll complete a minimum of 50 logged dives and at least 5 SSI Specialty Programs, including Diver Stress & Rescue. This path allows you to customize your training with specialties that match your interests—such as Deep Diving, Navigation, Dry Suit, Enriched Air Nitrox, Night & Limited Visibility, and more.

Training with Coral Sea Scuba means developing these skills in authentic Pacific Northwest conditions, with local instructors who focus on safety, comfort, and confidence so that you’re ready for almost any dive adventure around the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the SSI Master Diver rating?
SSI Master Diver is a recognition level that shows you have completed multiple specialty programs and logged significant real-world dive experience. It is one of the highest non-professional ratings in recreational diving.

What are the requirements?
You’ll need at least 50 logged dives and a minimum of 5 SSI Specialty Programs, including Diver Stress & Rescue. Many divers also include specialties like Deep Diving, Navigation, Dry Suit, Perfect Buoyancy, and Enriched Air Nitrox.

How long does it take to become a Master Diver?
The timeline varies for each diver. Some divers earn this rating over a single season of active diving, while others build toward it over several years as they complete specialties and log dives.

Do my existing specialties and logged dives count?
Yes. Any SSI-recognized specialties you’ve already completed and properly logged dives can count toward the Master Diver requirements. We’ll review your logbook or digital logs and help you plan any remaining steps.

Why should I become a Master Diver?
The Master Diver rating is a personal achievement that reflects commitment, skill, and experience. It can increase your confidence, expand your dive opportunities, and is a great goal if you love diving and want to keep progressing without going pro.

What comes after Master Diver?
Many Master Divers continue into SSI Dive Guide or other professional-level programs, or they simply keep adding specialties and exploring new types of diving around the world.
