Who should take the Waves, Tides & Currents course?
This course is ideal for divers who want to expand their diving opportunities by safely exploring shore dives, drift dives, river dives, and locations with changing water conditions.
Do I need previous current diving experience?
No previous current diving experience is required. You should be a certified Open Water Diver or equivalent and comfortable in the water before beginning this specialty.
What will I learn during the course?
You will learn how to interpret tides, identify current patterns, evaluate environmental conditions, plan safe entries and exits, and adapt your dive plan based on changing conditions.
Will we practice diving in currents?
Yes. Depending on local conditions, your training may include shore dives, river dives, or dives in currents so you can apply your new skills in real-world environments.
Does this course count toward advanced SSI certifications?
Yes. The SSI Waves, Tides & Currents Specialty can count toward Specialty Diver, Advanced Adventurer, and other higher-level SSI recognition ratings.
